EnglishThe Great Fire of London Changes a City. In this episode, we’ll follow a disaster that reshaped London and changed the way the city was built.

EnglishIn September 1666, London was crowded, wooden, and dangerously dry. On the night of September 2, a fire began at a bakery on Pudding Lane. Fanned by strong winds, flames jumped from building to building, while narrow streets made escape difficult. For four days, the fire raced through the city, destroying thousands of homes and important churches, including the medieval St Paul’s Cathedral. Londoners carried belongings toward the river or beyond the walls. When rain and calmer winds finally stopped it, much of London lay in ashes. The disaster led to new building rules: brick and stone replaced much timber, and streets became safer. London rose again, more organized and more resilient.

EnglishNow the lesson continues in Spanish. Listen for the same chain of events and the city’s remarkable recovery.
